The Houston Design Collaborative Young Professional Studio Series’ next stop is our Menil Four-Plex! Join us on Monday, May 11th at 5:30!
Surrounding the Menil Campus, a ring of residential scale projects are taking shape to modernize the spaces while retaining the neighborhood’s character. At the corner of Sul Ross and Mulberry, HR Design Dept is finishing their latest full renovation of a beloved Montrose typology, the four-plex.
Built in 1930, this four-square house has operated as apartments since its acquisition by the Menil Foundation in the early 1970s. The Menil Foundation commissioned HRDD to renovate the aging structure, preserving its residential use along the Menil loop following their successful completion of two historic bungalows and new ADUs a block away. This event includes a hard hat tour of the latest project as well as a short walking tour of additional projects on the same block.
The tour will begin at 6 pm, led by HR Design Dept principals Heather Rowell and Eric Hughes. Justin Doak and Mary Hohlt of the Menil Project Development team will join, leading a stroll through the neighborhood. Happy Hour will follow on the Menil Lawn.
Parking is available on the surrounding streets and within the Menil lot.
Tour will start at 6pm. Attendance is limited to 40 people. Register here!
The Houston Design Collaborative was imagined by four Houstonian women interested in highlighting how Houston’s built environment is designed, developed, and sustained. Its vision is to establish a vibrant and engaged community dedicated to exploring, understanding, and advocating for design, planning, development, fabrication, and construction in greater Houston.
